The Potomac School's robotics program wants to make it a priority to spread the knowledge of robotics to girls everywhere! We present at Girls In Technology, a program meant to teach girls leadership, engineering, teamwork, and how to shine through in the male-dominated field of STEM. In fall of 2017, the robotics program will present at Fall Frolics, a fair hosted by Potomac School. This year we have a Girl Powered tent with the primary goal of giving knowledge to both girls and boys about what the initiative is all about. Step-by-step the Potomac robotics program is working on helping expand the STEM community to everyone who wants to give it a shot.

In October, some of our team members participated in the Girl Powered booth at our school’s fall fair, Fall Frolics. At the booth, team members taught kids from around the area how to build VEX IQ robots and talked to parents about the Girl Powered initiative and how we incorporate its mission into our robotics program. Along with learning to build the robots, our group offered the ability for young attendees walking around the fair to learn the skill of driving the robots. Our program allows children from a wide variety of ages to experience the thrill of both building and driving the machines.

Fem 'n STEM is a club started in the 2017-2108 school year and is designed for anyone who is interested in STEM and/or women's empowerment. It is lead by two members of the Potomac School robotics team, Whitney Bowen and Hollis Cutler along with another Potomac student, Haley Prince. The club talks about how women are seen in the STEM community along with watching movies such as Hidden Figures. In the future, the club is working on finding a time to work with students in the Middle school and Lower school.
